The Wrestler
Director Darren Aronofsky strikes possible Oscar gold with gritty tale of wrestler Randy “The Ram” Robinson (Mickey Rourke). Randy is a carreer wrestler trying to make it back on top of the wrestling circuit. But life has not been kind to Randy as the life of a pro wrestler is nasty, brutish, and short. Meanwhile, as he faces his own mortality Randy makes attempts at love with a stripper, Cassidy (Marisa Tomei), and making up with his daughter Stephanie (Evan Rachel Wood). Amazing performances from Rourke and Tomei breathe life into a painfully accurate portrail of life in the wrestling world. Vivid scenes shot in a semi documentary style leave a strong impression as well. Worth seeing on the big screen. The Wrestler is rated R.

Bride Wars
Liv (Kate Hudson) and Emma (Anne Hathaway) are best friends, and, ever since they were little girls they’ve been planning their weddings together. Unfortunately for Liv and Emma the swanky location they both want to hold their wedding at makes a booking error which will potentially force one of the girls to have to pick another less desirable location– the bride war begins. Which bride to be will get the location? A vicious game of one upmanship takes place as each bride makes their best effort to get the space. Predictable plot, bad jokes, and almost uncomfortable to watch. Maybe a rental someday when you’re done watching paint dry. Bride Wars is rated PG.

Not Easily Broken
David (Morris Chestnut) marries his dream woman Clarice (Taraji Henson). What starts out as a strong marriage becomes a challenge for both parties as the two are faced with financial stresses, medical issues, and the desire or lack there of for kids. Then, when matters couldn’t possibly get worse Dave and Clarice are tested even further in their marriage as life throws more twists and turns their way. Can their love and faith prevail? Conceptually, not the worst script, but in actuality, horribly predictable, corny at times, and hardly redeemable. Fortunately Chestnut and Henson’s acting isn’t that bad. Maybe a rental at a later date…maybe…Not Easily Broken is rated PG-13.
