Bad Santa 2

Fueled by a sickening mixture of gin and cheap whiskey Willie Soke’s (Billy Bob Thornton) life hasn’t exactly turned into the rose garden he would have hoped for. So, when the opportunity for a big score comes in the form of a heist delivered by old partner, Marcus (Tony Cox), the foul mouthed Santa receives a reprisal of his red suit. Lead by Willie’s mother and double crossing felon, Sunny (Kathy Bates), what could go wrong; a lot apparently.badsanta Directed by Mark Waters, this darkly blue story wrapped up in a red suit stands as a reminder, sometimes guys in red suits wear horns and carry pitchforks, I’m relatively sure there’s a ring of hell devoted for folks who laugh at some of the humor contained within. Now, that’s not to say that the film is a bad film or that the jokes are bad in quality; the taste however, might be questionable for some audiences, alas, I’m also pretty sure if you’ve gotten this far, you’re already aware of what angle Bad Santa is working, to which congratulations, your sidecar to hell is waiting right over here next to the turnstiles of the theatre doors. In reality, it’s about mindset, some folks can appreciate hot under the collar blue humor, others can’t, if you’re in the latter category, pass, but for the rest of you, a fine matinee time passing option awaits you in this louder, raunchier, and paper cutting sequel. Bad Santa 2 is rated R….no kidding.

Moana

Realizing her island home is dying, princess to be, Moana (Auli’i Carvalho) sets out on a nautical quest to balance the heart of mother earth– no small task, in fact a job that will require the help of Demi-god Maui (Dwayne Johnson). But, what if Moana and Maui are already too late? moana Directed by a quad of minds, Ron Clements, Don Hall, John Musker, and Chris Williams, this empowering story has a lot to love, great message, great voices, a decent song, solid animation, and a splash of humor; but, perhaps because of its quartered direction also runs a bit slow and long, shoehorning in too many plot points in an attempt to unnecessarily pad things out. Regardless, the requisite number of chuckles and even a few pokes in the Disney eye keep this seagoing vessel afloat start to finish. Moana is rated PG.

The Eagle Huntress

Dateline Mongolia and 13 year old Aisholpan Nurgaiv is about to stir the pot of the eagle hunting community. Traditionally an all male dominated vocation, Aisholpan’s interest and aptitude for eagle hunting is unprecedented, imagine the surprise and reaction culturally upon her rise to the top to become the best.huntress Directed by Otto Bell and receiving the Executive Producer blessing of Morgan Spurlock this endearing, empowering, and inspiring tale sends an overwhelmingly positive feminist message in the face of sexism, ageism, and the close-minded attitudes of a world that’s changing faster than ever. Albeit, sometimes driven by overly convenient plot devices such as a radio announcer’s message, and perhaps in need of a hair more polishing or refinement, none the less the end result is still a warm and well received message, something to be thankful for. The Eagle Huntress is rated G.
