Wonder Woman
Diana (Gal Gadot), Princess of the Amazons, trained in combat and possessing powers greater than she understands, finds herself drawn into the war to end all wars when pilot and British Spy Steve Trevor (Chris Pine) crashes into her world. With a calling to help humanity Diana sets out to save the world from the corrupting powers of Ares, son of Zeus and god of war; but is she too late, and what of the chemical weapons being brewed by General Ludendorff (Danny Huston) and henchwoman Dr. Maru (Elena Anaya)?
Directed by Patty Jenkins and Written by Allan Heinberg, this story of origin does faithful justice to bring one of DC’s tentpole characters to life in an unrelenting show of integrity, brawn, grace under pressure, and compassion– a much appreciated shot of relief in the arm of the DC universe. Gadot’s on screen presence is commanding, retaining the viewer’s attention from start to finish even when attention’s otherwise wain. Cinematically interesting and composed, audience’s are in for a fictional historical treat with careful attention to detail. And, while the ultimate showdown and set piece doesn’t entirely break the mold for superhero closeouts leaving audiences with a mildly melodramatic sentiment and message about love, the overall impact is still a solid one two punch and kick to leave audiences hungry for more! Wonder Woman is rated PG-13.
