Moonlight

Told as a triptych, Moonlight follows the life of a black man growing up in Florida from his early youth when he is known as Little (Alex Hibbert) growing into teen, Chiron (Ashton Sanders) to grown gay man, Black (Trevante Rhodes). Detailing the struggles at each age, the meaning of Moonlight is explained in poetic detail. moonlight Directed and partially written by Barry Jenkins, this deliberately paced drama reveals a fully dimensional formation of a man’s character, from role model to school bullies, first loves to mothers. Jenkins explores in detail the uneasiness of youth by slowly pulling the bandaids of life off to reveal the strengths, weaknesses and beauty within the human soul, in doing so his actors respond brilliantly. Truly a remarkable and gritty piece that will leave you feeling a bit raw and ready for discussion just the same. Cinephiles, this one is deserving of your attention, Moonlight is rated R.
