The Space Between Us

Secretly born on Mars to a NASA astronaut Sara Elliot (Janet Montgomery), 16 year old Gardner Elliot (Asa Butterfield) travels to earth for the first time to find his father and to be brought out of the shadows. With the help of orphan Tulsa (Britt Robertson), Gardner might just find success before his health and NASA scientists, Nathanial and Kendra (Gary Oldman and Carla Gugino) catch up with him. Written by Allan Loeb and Directed by Peter Chelsom this attempt at an interstellar coming of age love story starts with the best intentions, Gary Oldman, once again melting seamlessly into his character; but upon liftoff begins to wear itself thin into a predictable and derivative muck. Impossibly bad staging, and consistently difficult plotting calls for louder groans, as if to suggest, keep the space between you and this film distant, as in Mars distant. Pass, The Space Between Us is rated PG-13.
