The Naked Gun

Following in the footsteps of his father, Frank Drebin Jr. (Liam Neeson) of the L.A. Police Squad finds himself investigating the strange circumstances surrounding the death of a tech genius, coincidentally the sister of that genius happens to be Beth Davenport (Pamela Anderson), and she wants answers too. Teaming up, the unlikely duo find themselves racing against time to save the planet from billionaires and Weird Al Yankovic. Written by Dan Gregor, Doug Mand, and Akiva Schaffer and Directed by Schaffer, this return to the visual humor doused in heavy wordplay serves as a veritable blunderbuss of comedy; powdered and reloaded with ferocious tenacity spattering the audience with a deluge of jokes, bits, and gags faster than the average viewer can keep up with almost ensuring the need for multiple viewings to catch everything that’s going on. Of course not everything hits, but that’s not the point, what is the point is that Schaffer and crew along with Producer Seth MacFarlane set audiences up for a film that harkens back to its roots of the original Naked Gun Trilogy from the late 80’s and early 90’s, paying homage and respect to all that have stood on the hallowed ground of the Zucker Brothers but also adding their own new vigor and wit to the mix. The end result is an 85 minute sprint that doesn’t overstay its welcome, brings plenty of laughs along the way, and gives good reason to carefully read the end credits. The Naked Gun is rated PG-13.
